FIRST LOOK — Faith Forward is launching a six-figure ad buy in battleground states backing Biden’s reelection bid and presenting a direct “counter-narrative” to the Christian nationalist messaging that has been deployed for Trump’s campaign, such as the viral “God Made Trump” ad. The new spot is intended as a springboard for a larger election program aimed at mobilizing faith-based communities and combating disinformation.

What the ad says: “On the sixth day, God made all of us. God said we need leaders who can unite rather than divide, who stand on morals and values and who don’t idolize dictators and bullies,” the voiceover in the ad says before ticking through a number of Biden policies. “President Biden answered the call.” It concludes: “For such a time as this, we pray to God what is true in our hearts: Four more years.” Watch the 60-second spot

    Excerpt:

“Those of us who know and love and support Joe Biden, need to speak up more about his heart,” Coons told me.

“There’s dozens and dozens of us connected to the campaign who need to speak up about it. People who are also people of deep faith and who have gotten through the hard things in life by leaning on the arms of Jesus need to be willing to say that.”

To help remedy this, Faith Forward is relaunching this campaign cycle with a six-figure ad-buy targeting religious voters around Easter. It will run nationally with intensive buys in swing states. I was one of the 500 religious leaders the group organized to endorse Biden in 2020.

Faith Forward has a new executive director in the Rev. Jen Butler, a longtime leader in faith-based advocacy. She spoke to me for her first media interview since starting on the job.

Five hundred religious leaders ― Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs and others ― have jointly endorsed the Democratic presidential ticket of Joe Biden and Sen. KaH Harris, according to the multi-faith advocacy group Faith 2020.

The endorsees include some who have never publicly backed a White House candidate, such as Ron Sider, the founder of Evangelicals for Social Action. The list also includes clergy from diverse theological positions ― from the progressive Christian pastor Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber, long a critic of President Donald Trump, to the evangelical preacher Rev. Rob Schenck, a former militant anti-abortion rights activist who has pledged to vote for a Democrat for the first time in 44 years.

  • Christian Latinos are uniting to say the issue of abortion isn’t the only concern they have in the election, which is why they’re voicing their endorsement for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

“As believers, abortion cannot be the only pro-life issue we discuss,” Pastor José Torres of Pequannock, New Jersey says in a new ad for the Biden campaign. “Hunger and malnutrition, immigration, criminal justice reform, access to education, affordable housing, they are all pro-life issues. We cannot stay silent. We must vote.”

Pastor Torres has been in ministry for almost 30 years as a Pentecostal minister in the New York and New Jersey area and has done missionary work that centers around hunger, homelessness, and health access in South America.
